Ancillary Tasks

With filming well underway, it's time to start thinking about the ancillary tasks that I will create individually to accompany our short film. I have chosen to produce a film poster and a magazine double-page spread featuring a review of our finished piece which I will use to promote our film. I plan to create these using my knowledge of their conventions which I have gained through my studies from earlier in the year (I have already studied the typical conventions and style of posters according to genre as well as having looked at the conventions of films reviews and had an attempt at writing my own). Though to further develop my skills, I plan to study these media products a little further to ensure that my own creations are completed to a professional standard.

Beginning Filming

10/02/13 - Today we began filming the first scenes of footage for our short film. The filming took place at my house which we used as location for the 'ex-girlfriend's' apartment. Firstly, we filmed the expositional shot for the very beginning of our short film which sees the camera pan across a luxurious bedroom. We achieved this through attaching the camera to a tripod and securing into the right position we wanted it in for the start of the clip and then we slowly rotated the camera around using the lever provided on the tripod. Afterwards we moved onto filming footage for the scenes in which the 'ex-girlfriend' uses a laptop to check up on Blake social network profile. We are pleased with the footage we have shot so far and have planned to film more during our lesson on Tuesday.

Filming Locations

With a full script completed, we can now focus on each exact scene and begin thinking about the locations we are going to use to film the footage. Below we have produced a mind map of our thoughts and ideas on this situation:

Short Film Script

Now that our new idea has been given the go ahead by the rest of the class and has received positive feedback, we've started to explore the concept in more thorough detail. We have planned the entire plot and have written a complete script for the short film which can be read below:

Narrative Concept

We have produced a short video which runs through the proposed plot of our short film which we will show alongside our presentation during our film pitch to the rest of the class. This was a useful exercise as it required us to begin picturing specific scenes and locations to be used which should hopefully help us later when it comes to filming the footage.

Film Pitch

Following the fall of our initial idea, our group have produced a new concept for the narrative of our short film which we are very pleased with. Below is a presentation containing an outline of the basic plotline, characters, etc. of our narrative which we plan to pitch to the rest of the class to discover their opinions of our new idea.

Change of Idea

We've just returned to college after the christmas break and have arrived with a change of heart about our concept for the narrative of our short film. Although we all still very much like the idea and feel, in the right hands, it would make a great short film, we feel that we may have over-stretched ourselves and been a little too ambitious with our initial thinking. The script would have required a large cast featuring members of a wide range of ages including those very young and those very elderly which, unfortunately, seemed unrealistic as none of us were able to provide such actors due to restricitons in our families and we saw no real solution around this problem. As discussion and development progressed with this narrative, more and more holes began to form in the concept and we all areed it was unlikely we would be able to pull off such an ambitious script. Therefore, we have made a group decision to abandon this idea from here on and work towards producing a new and achieveable narrative concept. Luckily, we have discovered this relatively early on and still have time to do so and thankfully, noone in the group has been disheartened.
